Integrity

We say what we mean, do what we say, and over-communicate with clients so they feel supported at every step of the project.

We hold every project to the same uncompromising standard, because your home deserves nothing less.

Care

We treat every client, every space, and every detail as if it belongs to someone we love, because to us, it does.

Craftsmanship

Every material is chosen with intention, every detail executed with pride, and every finished space built to grow more beautiful with time.

Three Generations in the Making

Herencia means inheritance, and this business is exactly that.

It began over 60 years ago, when Alejandra’s grandfather arrived in Los Angeles and started a landscaping company. He eventually passed the business to her father, who cultivated and maintained beautiful outdoor spaces across the city for decades. When her father was unexpectedly diagnosed with cancer, Alejandra and her husband, Jonathan, took over the family business to honor the legacy her grandfather started decades ago.

Family gathered around a fire pit in a garden, roasting food and sitting on benches with drinks.

But honoring the legacy didn't mean staying the same.

Today, we’ve become known for full design-build transformations: completely customized outdoor living spaces crafted with natural materials, California native and drought-tolerant plants, and a signature aesthetic that is warm, organic, and unmistakably Herencia.

We offer our clients custom outdoor renovations for homeowners who want their backyard to be the place their family gathers, their kids grow up, and their guests never want to leave.

California Drought-Tolerant Design | Our Signature Style

The Herencia aesthetic is warm, natural, and deeply rooted in the California landscape — alive with natural materials that age gracefully, thrive in the Southern California climate, and only get more beautiful with time.

We build outdoor spaces that pull you outside, slow you down, and become the backdrop for the moments you'll never forget.

Meet Alejandra + Jonathan Aviña

The husband and wife team leading Herencia Landscaping

Alejandra (Ale) Aviña

Ale is the first voice you'll hear at Herencia. Clients consistently say her warmth, organization, and genuine care are unlike anything they've experienced with a contractor before.

She holds a BS in Community Health Education, a foundation that continues to shape the way she thinks about outdoor spaces: not just as something beautiful to look at, but as places that support people’s well-being, connection, and daily quality of life. She also holds a Qualified Water Efficient Landscaper (QWEL) certification and California Native Plant Landscaper Certification. Together, these credentials reflect her commitment to creating landscapes that don’t just look beautiful on day one, but support the people who live in them and thrive in the Southern California climate for years to come.

What drives her runs deeper than credentials. Ale grew up making her most meaningful memories outdoors, and she feels that when she's building those spaces for others. She cares about every part of the process: the first call, the design, the materials, the daily coordination, all the way to the final day when everything is cleaned up and handed back to the family. Her favorite moment is coming back to take photos of the space and seeing how they've already started making it theirs.

One of her favorite memories is from early in their journey, when their very first client walked out into her newly transformed backyard, looked around slowly, and started to cry. "It finally feels like home," she said. Standing there with Jon beside her, Ale cried too. And in that moment, she knew without a doubt that her dad would have been proud, and that she had found exactly what she was meant to do.

Jonathan Aviña

Jon is the reason every Herencia project gets built the way it was designed, and the reason clients feel completely confident from the moment he walks onto their property.

He came to landscaping construction from the glazing industry, where he spent years managing complex commercial projects, coordinating multiple trades on high-rise buildings, and developing the kind of field problem-solving instincts. He realized early on that he had a gift for leading people, executing a vision, and finding solutions on the fly, and that he wanted to use those skills to build something of his own.

At Herencia, Jon leads every build from the ground up. He directs the crew, manages the timeline, and is on site every single day making sure every detail of the design comes to life exactly as the client envisioned. He communicates openly and consistently with daily progress updates, real-time answers, and a transparency that his clients consistently describe as unlike anything they've experienced with a contractor before.

He's at his best with a plan in hand, a team around him, and a client's vision to execute. And it shows in every finished project Herencia has ever built.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What makes Herencia different from other landscaping companies?

We're a design-build company, not just a crew you hire to execute a plan. We bring a signature aesthetic, deep expertise in California native and drought-tolerant design, and a level of communication and care that our clients consistently say they've never experienced with a contractor before. We treat every project like it's our own home, because that's the only way we know how to work.

How long have you been in business?

Herencia Landscaping has been serving homeowners across Los Angeles and Orange County since 2018, but our roots in the industry go back over 60 years. Alejandra's grandfather started a landscaping company in Los Angeles in the 1970s, her father carried it forward for decades, and today she and Jonathan are building the next chapter of that legacy.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes, fully. We hold a California contractor's license, and Herencia Landscaping carries full liability insurance on every project. You can hire us with complete confidence that your home and investment are protected.

What areas do you serve?

We serve homeowners across Los Angeles and Orange County, with a primary focus on the San Gabriel Valley and surrounding communities, including Pasadena, Arcadia, La Cañada Flintridge, Yorba Linda, Fullerton, and Brea in Orange County. Not sure if we cover your area? Reach out, and we'll let you know right away.

Do you only do full projects or can you help with smaller jobs?

We specialize in full outdoor living transformations, known as complete design-build projects, where we can really bring a vision to life from start to finish. Our projects typically start at $25,000, which reflects the scope, materials, and intention we bring to every job. If you're not sure whether your project is the right fit, reach out, and we’ll be happy to have an honest conversation about what makes sense.
