Complete Design + Build Outdoor Living Transformations
At Herencia, landscape design is always the starting point for a project together. Your design includes a dedicated on-site consultation, full property measurements, a c ustom CAD plan or photorealistic 3D rendering, a curated California native and drought-tolerant plant palette, and material recommendations aligned with your aesthetic and budget, everything needed to move into the build phase with complete clarity.
Every design we create is built with the full project in mind: the materials, the construction, the timeline, and the finished space our clients will live in and enjoy for years to come.

The Herencia Process | How Landscaping Projects Come Together
01
The Discovery Call
Once you submit the form, Alejandra will reach out via email to schedule a short phone discovery call. This is where we get to know you, learn about your space, and make sure we’re the right fit for your project. We’ll ask about your vision, your timeline, and what you’re hoping to create.
02
The On-Site Consultation
If we’re a great fit, the next step is an on-site consultation at your property. Jonathan will come out to walk the space, take measurements, and gather everything needed to put together an accurate proposal for the project. This visit includes a $150 paid consultation fee, which reflects the time, expertise, and intention we bring to every project from day one. If you decide to move forward working together, the $150 consultation fee is credited toward the project cost.
03
The Design
From the on-site visit, we develop a custom design for your space — a detailed plan that brings together your vision, your property’s unique characteristics, and our signature aesthetic. Depending on your needs, we will suggest either a 2D or a 3D design of your outdoor space. You’ll have the opportunity to review, refine, and approve the design before we ever break ground.
04
The Build
Once the design is approved, we get to work on-site! Jonathan leads the build from start to finish, keeping you informed every step of the way through a dedicated project group chat and client portal. We work with focus and intention — one project at a time — so you and your space get the full attention it deserves.
05
The Reveal + Follow-Up
Every project ends with a final walkthrough, brand photos of your finished space, and a one-week check-in to make sure everything is performing and functioning exactly as it should.

Frequently Asked Questions About Landscaping Design
Do you offer design-only projects?
Yes, if you already have a trusted contractor and just need the design, we're happy to help. That said, our clients who choose Herencia for the full design-build experience consistently tell us it was the best decision they made. When the team that designs your space is the same team that builds it, nothing gets lost in translation, and the result shows.
What is the average project cost?
Every project quote is unique to your home and vision. We recommend scheduling a discovery call with us to learn more.
What's your design style?
We specialize in what we like to call Mediterranean warmth meets California ranch design. We leverage drought-tolerant plants, natural materials, and organic textures. We like to create spaces that feel warm, welcoming, and lived-in, and that work with the natural landscape, not against it.
How long does the design process take?
Most designs are completed within two to three weeks of the on-site consultation, depending on the scope and complexity of the project. For larger projects with a full 3D rendering, allow a little additional time to make sure every detail is right.
What is the difference between a 2D design and a 3D rendering?
A 2D CAD design is a precise overhead plan of your space, showing layout, dimensions, plant placement, and materials. A 3D rendering takes it further, giving you a photorealistic visualization of your finished yard so you can see exactly how it will look before we build. Most clients who choose the 3D option are very happy with the choice because it removes all the guesswork and gives everyone complete confidence before breaking ground.
Do I need a landscape architect?
For most residential landscape and outdoor living projects, a landscape designer is all you need. A landscape architect is typically required for new construction, significant structural changes like major retaining walls, or projects that need to go through a formal permitting process. If you aren't sure what your project needs, we'll let you know at the on-site consultation.
Can you design for both my front and back yard?
Absolutely. Many of our clients choose to design both spaces together so the aesthetic flows seamlessly from the street to the backyard. We'll quote the front and back independently so you can choose to do both at once or phase the project over time.
Can I get a rebate for replacing my lawn with drought-tolerant landscaping?
It's very likely! And we love helping clients take advantage of it when it makes sense. California's Be Water Wise program offers rebates for homeowners who replace their lawn with drought-tolerant or native landscaping. We're listed as a certified installer on the Be Water Wise and CalScape directories, so we know the process inside and out. Ask us about it on your discovery call.
What if I want changes after I see the design?
That's exactly what the design review is for. We walk through every detail together and refine until the design feels completely right. Nothing moves to the build phase until you've given your full approval.
Do you handle permits for the project?
Most landscape and outdoor living projects don't require permits. For those that do, such as significant retaining walls, structures attached to the home, or projects requiring gas or sewer line work, we'll identify that during the consultation and guide you through exactly what's needed.
