Working from home changed the way our clients experienced their home. What was once an underutilized backyard filled with dirt, weeds, broken planters, outdated storage, and no irrigation or lighting no longer supported the life they wanted to live. They envisioned something entirely different — a space that felt calming, inviting, and intentional. A place to step away from the screen during the workday, enjoy slow mornings under the trees, and transition effortlessly into evenings spent gathering with friends and family.

Inspired by their travels and love of farm-to-table cooking, this backyard remodel was designed to feel organic, layered, and deeply connected to the way they live. Rather than creating one large patio, the space was thoughtfully divided into distinct yet cohesive areas that bring rhythm and variability to everyday life. A raised dining terrace encourages outdoor meals and connection, while the lower lounge area creates a relaxed setting for conversation, quiet mornings, or slow evenings outdoors.

Two custom raised vegetable beds were integrated into the design to support the clients’ love of cooking and fresh ingredients. At the heart of the backyard, the existing date palm was transformed into a focal point with a custom raised planter that doubles as additional seating — turning what was once overlooked space into an area designed for gathering and connection. Gravel pathways, layered planting, and natural materials soften the space and create an inviting garden feel throughout.

To extend the usability of the backyard beyond daylight hours, layered lighting was incorporated to create warmth, safety, and ambiance from day to night. A custom trough imported from Belgium adds movement and tranquility, bringing a subtle sensory element that makes the space feel even more peaceful and grounded.

What makes this project especially meaningful is how it came together behind the scenes. With no machine or wheelbarrow access to the backyard, every element was carefully transported and installed entirely by hand — a true testament to craftsmanship, attention to detail, and our clients’ commitment to creating a home centered around outdoor living.
